The topic of Hip Hop has always been in the air. The controversy of who has "killed" the Hip Hop industry is never ending. It's safe to say that music itself has evolved and changed over the last 10 years. We've gone from lyrical songs to a good beat and that's about it. So, who's to blame? Do we blame the artist, for creating and recording the music ? Do we blame the record labels for approving the music and requesting such things from artist? Or do we blame ourselves, the consumers for buying it? Think about it, if we weren't buying into the music that these artist put out, would half of these artist and songs really be making the top 100 on the billboard charts? Of course, the artist makes the music, we hear it and we buy it. Whether its for a good beat or some catchy lyrics, either way someone is buying it and if that album sells over a hundred thousand in its first week, why would the label
Want to put out anything else? The problem is that, nobody really wants to turn on the radio and hear good conscious lyrics, an artist talking about something real. They rather hear about popping bottles, money and all of the other glits and glamour that fame brings. If as much people were buying music about real life and good lyrics more than a good beat, than we would be hearing more of it. I admit I listen to a few of those songs from the new age hip hop , simply for the beat or catchy lyrics. But, I also love rap that has meaning. I once played the j cole CD for my Friend in the car , and she simply said " The album is good but This is conscious rap. Too much for me to think about". I love J.Cole and I loved the album. I'm just pointing out that they would know him for "Work Out" but they wouldn't know him for 'See World' or 'Lost Ones'. They would remember Big K.R.I.T for ' Country Shit' but not for 'The Vent'. This is today's society. This is Today's Hip Hop, We can't blame the artist or the label for releasing music that the consumers want. Who's to blame but ourselves ?
