One of the most important things throughout my hair journey has been finding the perfect mix of product's. I'm still searching for the perfect leave in conditioner, Giovanni leave in conditioner is what I plan to try next since I have heard good reviews about it. Just a reminder: Water is your best friend When my hair has been out for a few day's it get's dry because of the heat and moisture in the air we need to constantly moisturise our hair and the best way to do this is with water. You don't need to drench your hair in water but just keeping a spray bottle and using a few sprays before twisting your hair or styling. Always lock the moisture in with your favourite products.
1. Shea Moisture- Shea Butter
Shea Butter has been my best friend throughout my journey, it provides me with the moisture and thick consistency that I just don't get from my oils. With shea butter a little bit goes a long way so it tend's to last a long time. There is no specific brand I like over the other but this jar specifically has a very creamy texture as well as a nice scent. It's 100 % natural shea butter imported from West Africa, and can be purchased at your local natural products store. I don't remember where I got this specifically, it was given to me but it sell's for about 14.99.
2. Naturel Olive Oil
I don't really use the olive oil too often, it just doesn't do much for me when it comes to moisture but it does add essential vitamins and such to my hair. I usually use this oil after I've washed my hair and before I twist my hair. It can be used for both your hair and body as it is 100 % pure olive oil. I purchased this at my local beauty supply store for 10.99 and have had it for over a year now with still half the bottle left.
3. Black Castor Oil
I love love love this oil! It substitutes for my grease, which I know longer use because of the petroleum I originally bought the castor oil for the sides of my hair because I noticed that they were thinning due to extreme tension on the scalp from braid's over the years. I had researched and noticed that a lot of people said castor oil helps them with thinning and traction alopecia. This castor oil is 100% natural and comes in a dark colour. It has a very thick consistency for a oil and that's why I love it. It gives that long lasting moisture, especially on my scalp. As for my sides, I do believe it is helping but I haven't been using it long enough to see huge improvements. I also purchased this at my local beauty supply store for 7.99.
4. Talijah Waajid- The Great Detangler
If you've never heard of the Talijah Waajid product line then you should definetley try it. They have a bunch of great natural products that work wonders. Now, I've had this detangler for about two year's but I've never really use a lot at a time. Once again, as with all of the product's I've mentioned a little goes a long way. I typically use this when I've just washed my hair and it's wet. It does a great job of detangling but also provides moisture. It does cause shrinkage so I wouldn't use it before styling in a puff or something of that sort. It is a light creamy base product but it doesn't leave any build up or excess grease. Some of the ingredients include shea butter, olive oil, cocoa butter oil, vitamin e and aloe Vera I purchased it at my local beauty supply for 7.99 on sale but the regular price is 8.99.
5. Organic Olive Oil Smooth-n-Hold Pudding
This olive oil product is meant to smooth and hold your hair while still providing moisture and shine. The only problem is that you definitely can't use it and go because it will not hold! I use it when styling my hair, in two French braids for example, to smooth my edges and tie it down with a silk scarf before night. Once I wake up in the morning my hair is smooth and ready to go for the next few days. I use it as a replacement to gel as it isn't damaging to my hair. It can be purchased for about 5.99 at your local beauty supply store.
I do plan on trying the Giovanni leave in conditioner very soon and I will post a review of the product once I have used it so be on the look out for that. What are your favourite hair products?
